The challenge: Achieve maximum flexibility by the simplest means possible.

As the demands placed on testing modern drive lines and mechanical components continue to increase, the importance of a robust mechanical setup is growing as well. A recent project for a test stand in the field of e-mobility confronted our customer with the challenge of creating maximum flexibility in the simplest possible way, so that they could configure a variety of test setups without wasting time or energy.

The solution: A quickly adaptable coupling with multi-part flanges.

To enable quick and easy adaptations while keeping the unit as compact as possible, flange connections were used on both ends. These are non-positive connections, meaning that the torque is transmitted by friction between the mating parts, which offers advantages in terms of both performance and durability. The precision pilots on the flange connections ensure the axes of rotation remain uniform, virtually eliminating the negative influence of imbalance in the coupling system and measurement results.

The coupling: EK8-300-B with custom bolt patterns.

The installed solution consists of a vibration damping and absolutely backlash free elastomer coupling which allows for a torque transducer to be integrated, in addition to various adaptations on the opposite side of the coupling. The special EK8-300-B coupling offers the greatest possible freedom to the user and makes a decisive contribution to facilitating daily testing tasks, increasing the efficiency of the entire process.

Technical data of EK8-300-B:

  • Rated torque 250 Nm
  • Max. torque 500 Nm
  • Speed of application 5.500 1/min
  • Max. torque of coupling 810 Nm
  • Max. speed of coupling 9.000 1/min
  • Elastomer insert Typ B 64 Sh D
  • Material of flange EN-AW 7075 aluminium
  • Type of construction highly compact
